Leland, MI

One of the most scenic places in the United States can be found within the lakes and dunes of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It is a magical place, especially in the Spring. Carolyn and I came here on a trip last year and spent a long weekend backpacking around the lonely island of North Manitou.

We had such a great time exploring this wondrous place, we decided to return the next year, but see a different side of the area. Instead of backpacking and camping, we took a more leisurely approach and stayed at a bed and breakfast in Leland, MI, called the Riverside Inn. Nestled in the North West portion of Lake Michigan, this small lake shore town is around a 40 minutes drive north from the more populated Traverse City.

We spent our time visiting a lighthouse, exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and perusing the beautiful wine country. It was a much different pace than our normal vacations, but it was a welcome break in our hectic lives. I will be back to this area again, as it truly is magnificent.
